The first question to ask yourself, why do I want to invest in the stock market? The answer is simple: TO MAKE MONEY!

There are several ways to make money in stocks, and I will go over a few with a brief description. I have NOT had experience in all the ways listed below.

#1 Investing Long Term: Many Years of buying and holding, think 401k.

#2 Swing Trading: Buying and selling in a few weeks.

#3 Short Term Investing: Buying and holding for a year or two.

#4 Day Trading: Buying and selling day to day and often the same companies.

#5 Options Trading: betting if a stock will go up or go down.

#6 Shorting stocks: borrowing shares at a certain price expecting it go lower.

I have experience in 4 out of 6 of these examples. I have not dabbled in options trading or shorting. Options trading and shorting are extremely risky and not something I will cover in these posts.
